Ick Be Gone.....and Coffee!!

Another morning and I am feeling like my usual self! I took a COVID test first thing and it is completely negative….not even the faint hit of a line like yesterday still had.

Now i can get back to the business of being Sean. Maybe a mountain bike ride. I haven’t been out on a trail ride in almost 3 weeks! It is definitely time to get back in the saddle and legs pumping.

I am only home for two more days before my next work trip, which will only be 6 days this time. Then I’ll be home for 3+ weeks.

Today though, it is time to enjoy not feeling sick!!

Lesser Ick

The ick feels completely gone but the antigen test still says otherwise. It was slow to appear and faint but the Covid line still appeared.

I will continue to isolate to protect those near me but at least I am well enough to ride the stationary bike! Still not sure if I’ll be able to get out on the trails before leaving on Thursday for my next trip… if I am covid free and not contagious! 😷 🤞

Today is just another day of reading, watching random youtube, playing guitar, and general lazing about. I tend to excell at these activities!!

Sitting with Ick

Still have the COVID Ick. Not a fan. Now it is just annoying because I feel fine but I’m still contagious and need to isolate. Well, this does give me many hours to plot and plan for upcoming adventures! And there will be adventures! Not entirely sure what kind of adventures, or where, or solo or with others, or when…..but there will be adventures!! Until then, I’ll just dream while sitting in my COVID cocoon.

Fence Friend and Coffee

Still battling COVID, sort of. I feel so much better with no fever or aches/pains, and very little congestion, but I still have the ick and still contagious.

So, it is continued isolation for me to protect the other people in this home. Staying in the house isn’t that much of an issue for me, but staying in only my room does get a little claustrophobic after a while. It’s not too bad over all though. I’ve got lots of things to read, two guitars to try and play with, an exercise bike, and of course the internet containing all of the beautiful madness of humanity!

At least I can go outside in the postage stamp back yard and find little friends on the fence!

Lesser Ick

I managed to make it home from Atlanta yesterday and now I am in self-quarantine/monk mode. Today is day four of COVID and I am feeling substantially better!

According to chatGPT (corroborated with other sources), I am through the Acute Illness, Peak/transition, and moving into the Improving phase. That is definitely how I feel!

Still, it is going to be time spent mostly in my bedroom so as not to infect others in the house, one of whom is supposed to travel internationally in two weeks!

I will probably get to read a lot and do a little work. I’ll be training on another project to work while I am home for three weeks coming up and I will also do some calls in preparation for my next trip after I get better.

So, it will still be relaxing….I think!

Full Blown Ick

At the suggestion of a friend I went to the 24 hr. pharmacy and grabbed a COVID/Flu antigen test.

Luckily, I don’t have the flu. But I do have COVID! I’m actually surprised I don’t get sick more often with how many different people I come into contact with for work. So, now I am cutting the work trip short by a few days and heading home.

This seems to be about day two or three and I’m feeling super tired and worn down. Beyond that I’m OK for now. Hopefully, it will have mostly run it’s course by middle of next week as I’m supposed to be back on the road. I can’t afford to be sick for too long!!

Mid-trip Ick

No walk this morning as I was just still feeling more blah than meh. I had an early interview scheduled on the other side of Atlanta in Decatur.

So, I had my coffee and breakfast, and got going. Ugh, the not feeling good yesterday wasn’t just from lack of sleep the night before. Today, I’ve got the occasional chills, stuffy nose, froggy voice, etc. But no real fever. I did go out and get a thermometer and check. It fluctuates up to 100 occasionally but is usually still hovering around 98.6.

After the morning interview I went to Publix and got supplies for hibernating the rest of the day to try and kick this so I can finish the last couple of days of this trip.

Morning Coffee and Walk

Super sluggish this morning after only about 4 hours of sleep.

Last night I had a couple cups of decaf in the evening while facetiming with my kid. Staring at the ceiling at 2:30am I realized that it wasn’t actually decaf!

Easy mistake I guess…packaging was colored decaf green. Ugh.

So, this morning let us appreciate actually reading the labels before consuming!

Predawn Coffee and Sunrise Walk

Just another day starting off the right way.

I tried to sleep in a little but my body apparently thinks 5:30-6:00am is the time it needs to be awake. So, I get out of bed and get some coffee, morning reading, and then go for a walk in the predawn light.

This is the final day of a crazy number of hours overtime week. Unfortunately, both interviews that were scheduled canceled. So, now it will just be a day of driving around and trying to get in touch with people.

Hopefully the Saturday Atlanta traffic isn’t quite as brutal as it was during the week. I’ve already been through two audio books on this trip!

More Coffee

Another early morning with coffee and overnight oats. Also got in a good mile+ treadmill ruck and read before sunrise….when did I become a morning person?! 🤣♾️☕️

All so I can be on the other side of Atlanta for an appointment at 8:00am. It’s a good thing I actually like my job!

Just Another Morning

Another morning getting started. Today I’ll be starting work early to get to an interview across the city by 8:30, which means I’ll be leaving by 7:30 to potentially battle traffic on those 19 miles.

So, no morning walk pictures today. Today is just my empty coffee and my overnight oats container. I don’t have to get up as early as I do but the day is always a little better when I do. I can sit quietly with my coffee and do my morning reading in this variation of the morning routine. Routines are important I think, but they have to be flexible, less they become little dictators in our minds and negating their benefits.

The second picture is from Brad Stulberg today. I love the concept of AND, not OR. Non dual thinking is where I naturally tend to exist. This was a good post about this concept: www.bradstulberg.org/p/things-…

Sunrise Walk

I definitely did not want to get out of bed and or for a ruck/walk first thing this morning. All the more reason why I did and I am much happier for it. 😁

It was a beautiful walk at sunrise around the lake behind the hotel. This is about as peaceful as it gets near the airport of a major American city.

Now, it is time for more coffee and the rest of the day!! 🤘♾️☕️

Morning Coffee and Walk in Atlanta

This is my third morning in Atlanta where I’ll be until Aug. 13th. It’s been a few days since I’ve posted with traveling, work supply shipping issues, major life transitions, etc. Sometimes it is good to just stick with routines and habits as they can keep you grounded. I’ve been slack for a few days but today is starting off much better.

  1. Outside fresh air walk/ruck while listening to some www.philosophersnotes.com
  2. Hotel coffee with overnight oats and morning reading.
  3. Finally getting my supplies from UPS for work!! They were supposed to be here Saturday in the AM…UPS will be refunding me on that for sure.

It’s a good day all ready!

Morning Mile and Morning Coffee

Today started out with my morning mile walk on the treadmill wearing a 20lb. rucksack and reading on the iPad. This is how I start most days before my coffee. I can usually do this even while traveling for work. It has just become my go to morning habit over the last few years maybe. My morning routine can vary depending on several factors, but it doesn’t vary much. First, wake up time is variable. For me, I usually start stirring about 5:30-6:00ish. Then:

  1. Quick outside for fresh air.
  2. 10 body weight squats and 11 pushups.
  3. Morning mile on the treadmill rucking and reading.
  4. Coffee and overnight oats. That all takes less than an hour and I’m ready for whatever comes next. Now it is time to back inside and get out if the humidity of South Carolina in the Summer!

Morning Coffee… Repeat

Morning coffee in the front covered area today. The back patio furniture is still wet from last night’s rain and I love to sit outside in the morning. Today I am appreciating morning coffee, good things to read, hanging out with my kid a bit, and maybe a mountain bike ride if trail conditions are favorable. Damn near a perfect day!

Morning Coffee Musings

Morning coffee and some morning words. not a bad way to start the day. Well, the day started on the treadmill with my morning mile walk and reading on the iPad. Now it is time for some quick morning journaling. After that it is just another Sunday, but a moist rainy one, so no outside activities. Now it is back to morning coffee and words to simply ease into the day.…and tame that morning hair! ♾️☕️

Evening Musings

Went to Croft State Park in Spartanburg today for a little two wheeled therapy in the woods.

No matter what life is throwing at me, or when life is amazing, some time in the woods is always good! 😊

Morning Coffee Musings

Major life transitions are weird.

When much of what was certain suddenly becomes more fluid and uncertain we find ourselves looking back for something more solid and grounding.

Lately I have been going down this path of the past and rediscovering much what was good is still there. I’ve been reaching out through social media and have been humbled and comforted by the responses, reactions, and caring of people from all of the various eras of my life.

The other day I reached out to an old friend on LinkedIn, the only place I could find where she’d been active recently. She called me back yesterday and we talked for almost two hours. It felt like no time had passed, even though we haven’t seen each other in person since 2004. Our last communication was a brief text exchange on Instagram in 2021.

We’ve known each other since the late 80’s. We even went to homecoming together in 1990. We’ve only been tangentially part of each other’s lives over the decades. Yet every time we do reconnect, it is like no time has passed.

This is who I am.

I am the once and future friend.

I’m the pal who you can call/message/email after six months, six years, or three decades. Do you need a conversation, a cup of coffee, a drink (non-alcoholic for me), a shoulder? I am that guy.

Once you are my friend, you’re always my friend.

Life may scatter us in different directions, but friendship with me doesn’t have an expiration date. It may be on pause for a few months or years, but it is still there.

Trailside Coffee

Finishing a quick cup of coffee before a ride on my local trails.

Croft State Park in Spartanburg has a great mountain bike trail system. It is perfect for getting out and getting in some quality dirt time and it is only about 25 minutes from home!

Now it is time to take my sweaty self home for more coffee and breakfast.

Coffee and Words

Morning coffee and morning thoughts.

I haven’t tried to journal in a long long time. I’ve done a little these past few weeks and it is definitely helping me organize and make sense of my feelings and thoughts in this transitional period of my life.

Today I wrote that I am not really a driven goal setter…I love to experience as much as possible, and in my simple way appreciate the amazing complexity of it all.

I think that is probably the closest thing I have to a personal mission statement!
